Do people spell better in harder-to-spell cities like Schenectady? Or (admittedly not as hard) Poughkeepsie? From the start, they have to spell their town's name a little more carefully; maybe it leads to more people spelling everything else more carefully.

And do all long-named cities get some shorter nickname? Like Charlottesville, VA being called C'ville?
