Addendum to the last post

At that summer camp I mentioned in my long recounting of how I became a Monty Python fan, some of the camp counselors would sing. (Such as the song they made up about Apple Slice, the soft drink the camp had bought too much of and had to encourage kids to drink, so they'd sing "Apple Slice is good for you, it's caffeine-free, and tasty too!") Some of them also sang "The Lumberjack Song." And they added a line:
He likes to play with the boys when they're all in the showers!
Okay, I have to stress that THEY SOMEHOW WEREN'T CREEPY ABOUT THAT, but whoa, that line would have baggage now. (And I got no sense that they'd actually act on that.)

That may have been my earliest exposure to the idea that a dirty mind doesn't make you a bad person: that you can have dirty thoughts or even awful thoughts and still be a good, well-behaved person. May have loosened me up.

And, comes to think of it, their line rhymes with "I cut down trees, I skip and jump, I like to press wild flowers" better than the actual line "He puts on women's clothing, and hangs around in bars!"
