Keeping myself honest

Did I enjoy Avatar for the wrong reasons?

I've been trying to write a review, and more generally trying to process what I like and what I don't about the film. It no longer feels like I have anything worth saying about it. Meaning, I thought I was conveying it, or even just getting close to conveying it. But a discussion I had with a friend has made me think I'm, maybe, possibly, Really Not Getting It. And I'm not sure I need to display my level of Really Not Getting It in a review.

So: none of my Avatar thoughts yet (though that may change; I think I'm going to post music-related thoughts about it), but in the meantime here's Mike Russell's detailed disappointment in Avatar, and also here's Caitlin R. Kiernan's defense of the film. Edit: And now cleolinda has chimed in.
