Non-sick aspects of recent times

On the tail end of this "being sick" thing, some thoughts not related to being sick:
**
Reading More Digressions, the second collection of Peter David's "But I Digress..." columns. I've been a fan of David's for almost 20 years now, and I'm heartened by the signs in this book that he's gone from being a good writer to being a better writer. (I first wrote "he went," but that made it sound like he'd died, AND HE HASN'T. HE'S STILL AROUND. Stay around, Peter!)

My Venture Bros. education has begun. I borrowed Season 1 from Mary-Suzanne, who I met at Geek Trivia, and who was willing to let me hold the DVDs in my hot little hands. One episode in and I'm thinking this show is my kind of wrong. It also makes me think "So how long can someone function without any kidneys?" O.o

More to view! More cogent reactions later!

I need to earn more. Yeah, don't we all. That's all I'll say.

I'll take a break from 19th-century lit for a bit once I'm finished with Pride and Prejudice. It's not my usual kind of reading, and combine that with how much of September I spent tired or exhausted and it's taken a while. I'm impressed with the writing and how precise the observation is, but it takes deeper reading than I really want to do right now.

I could go straight into Moby-Dick next -- I have a copy of that book -- buuuuuuuuuuut that can wait.

Felt it was right to read Pride and Prejudice considering I've read Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. I'm glad to say that there was more actual writing in that parody than just dropping in "And then they fought zombies!" There was a little more effort expended in adding zombies to Jane Austen's world than that. Not that it makes it a good book, but credit where credit is due and all that good stuff. (And, for what it's worth, Austen definitely did not make Mr. Collins seem closeted.)

Okay. I'm going to call it good for this entry. If I go "Oh, crap! I forgot...," then I can just make an entry about THAT.
