The old monitor? Got used well past its use-by date. In fact it was salvaged from the attic of my relatives out in Dayton, Oregon back in, oh, it was either 2004 or 2004, when my previous monitor died a death. (OK, it didn't actually die. But its power button broke, so there was no way to turn it on.) Family found the replacement on short notice and I got it installed and it was small and a little blurry in the corners, okay in more than the corners but it was still legible, and I muddled through. For six-plus years.
It started to fail earlier this month. Lose its horizontal hold and strrrrrrrrrretch like taffy, then flicker. But not always. But then more often. Became a crapshoot: how quickly can I do my computer stuff before it strrrrrrrrrretches? Annoying.
Thank goodness for Christmas money, which covered some of the coat, plus thank goodness for post-Christmas sales. I bought it, I got it home, I installed it, it got images like it was supposed to, and it looks GOOD. It's a 20-inch (an improvement in size) LED (diodes! That means it's scientific!) display. I won't hug it, though, because that's weird. And I'd risk breaking it.
Bigger screen. I could get used to this. In fact, I almost certainly would.
Merry Christmas to me!
