I made a bad habit stop being a worse habit. Or rather, I made a bad habit less annoying after I'd made it more annoying.
The bad habit? Belching. Sometime in my youth, I think around high school, I got so self-conscious about my belches that I wanted to cover them up. With some deranged form of teenager logic, "cover them up" translated to "belch, then cough while striking your chest like you're trying to get food out of the wrong pipe."
See what I mean by more annoying?
This was a PAIN to train myself out of. Took my a while. But I did it. Now if I belch, I apologize and leave it at that. I no longer sound like I'm Heimliching myself.
