I was sad I had no shoes, until...

...I realized Hey! I have really awesome boots!

(I'm...I'm getting something wrong there. I just know it.)

I've just retired the tennis shoes I've had the past few years. They were beyond ready to go. They had holes where shoes aren't meant to have holes. They weren't as bad as a high school-era pair of mine, which had holes in the soles, but these holes showed off my socks. And as Portland gets wetter for the rest of the year, I would've had fewer good chances to wear them, so: they're gone.

I am allowed to get rid of stuff.

Rule of thumb I'll try to follow someday: it's a good idea to have three pairs of shoes, and rotate their use so each pair has a chance to breathe in between bouts of holding in your skanky feet. They'll last longer. Meanwhile, it's a good idea to wear hard shoes to the current job, and my hiking boots are good weekend wear and okay for casual workdays. Plus for actual hiking and, when it happens, yardwork.

You can tell I'm not a shoe hound. I'm sure some straight guys are, but I'm not one of them.

So my footwear is now down to one pair of hard shoes, one pair of boots, and one pair of slippers. I miss having these thick-soled socks (from Totes, I think) that were good and comfortable to wear around home; I've rarely lived in places where I'd be comfortable and warm enough with bare feet. Yes, I'm officially old.

This is the most I've thought about feet since forever. Another way I'm not Quentin Tarantino.
