A true anecdote (because "a true story" in this case is being too grand)

The weirdest response I ever got to one of my movie reviews, back when I did them as a sideline at my newspaper job at the Hermiston (OR) Herald, was someone from a local church sending a church manifesto with a note asking me to mail it to director John Carpenter because I obviously knew him.

I'd just reviewed his film Vampires.

I thought Gee, I'd actually like if I did know him...
