Projected on the Sky

As if you could get comfortable walking on endless glass,
You ride on an ocean unnaturally calm.
The water supports you. You can't know for sure
If the land on which you stand is land, or
A raft, or a fish-back,
Despite the solid footing, the sand and the grass-tufts,
With an almost comical bent palm hooked up from it.
It's a cliché. No matter. You won't see that until awakening. You'll simply see the tree.
You'll simply relax, wrapped in warmth
As if your world were a bed, blankets on blankets on blankets.
The silence extends to the horizon. Up above, however:
All the drama is up above.
Color-riot erupts with the dusk;
The sky-dome above seems dusty and gold
As if damaged from the clashing hues among it;
The result? Wilder reflections of the light the setting sun sends.
An interruption: perhaps-too-fast contrails from one plane stab through, then
Tangle with the also-perhaps-too-fast contrails from another.
This battle, briefly, dirties the sky.
From above, comes a scream. From above, falls a plane
To beyond the horizon. A horrible noise of damage, somewhere.
But the waters? Still, are still.
And, now, the night-sky asserts itself: as its own kind of vivid.
Even in the dark, the light is ample.
The stars seem to dance with the clouds.
The impossible distance between? Nothing. Wispy tendrils wend around the light.
Some clouds blend with nebulae. Others have a gorged purple almost-light,
Pulsing from them.
The moon, of course, rises. It demands to be in on the scene.
Do clouds touch it, too? Perhaps.
Perhaps the moon is near. It does seem large;
You almost want to imagine there's a noise of the moon being hoisted; but no.
The silence is comfort.
The silence is present.
The silence helps.
The silence sends your focus to the endless show
Projected on the sky.
