Turns out the 22-year-old used copy of Richard Lattimore's translation of "The Odyssey" has a label on the back with a metal strip in it. Not much, maybe not enough to set off a metal detector but enough to nick me as I prepared to leave for work. So I first stopped to put a bandage on, then prepared to leave but stopped again because my copy of "The Odyssey" had blood smeared on it. Homer would approve.
