Is it, somehow, hard?

"Hi. You've reached Christopher Walsh at [phone number redacted]. Um, please leave a message and I will get back to you."

That's my answering machine (yes I have an answering machine) message. The "um" was unintentional, but I didn't bother to re-record it to be "um"-less. Aaaaaaaaaaaaand this seems to defeat some people. I seem to be getting more messages that are people saying "Hello? Hello?" This morning the phone rang while I was in bed, I decided to let the machine get it, and I heard the caller do this live. "Hello? Um, hello?" Then *click*.

Remind me: do cell phones generally not have recorded messages like that? Do they usually have an automated "the caller can't be reached right now" message? Yes I'm mechanically inexperienced enough to want to ask that.

I'm tempted to re-record it to say "Let's keep this simple. You want to reach me? LEAVE A MESSAGE."
