Basil Poledouris, 1945-2006

Film composer Basil Poledouris has died from cancer at age 61. Sixty-one, damnit.

As if losing Ed Bradley to leukemia today didn't suck enough.

Poledouris was a lusty man who wrote lusty music: Conan the Barbarian, The Hunt For Red October, RoboCop, The Blue Lagoon, Red Dawn, Starship Troopers, Lonesome Dove...and was funny and loving, a good person. I have a video biography of him (Basil Poledouris: His Life and Music) that was produced by my former editor Lukas Kendall. Lukas has lost a friend. So have many, many people in the film music industry.

When I have time later (I'm on lunch), I'll post a good Basil story from that biography.
