After work today, I walked past the office tower I'd worked in from 2009 to 2011, and recognized one of the longtime assistants I'd worked with, standing outside waiting for her ride. We said hi loudly, and hugged. Five years after we'd last seen each other and we still feel right about hugging. YES THIS FEELS GOOD.
Though I was tempted, and even with her giving me a perfect lead-in for doing so, I resisted telling her about why I'd been fired, or that the boss who'd fired me offered me my job back two months later. It may have been juicy to tell, but not fair to her. (Notice I'm not saying "it's not fair to the former boss." Yes, I may still have issues with what happened. I "own" that...and am more careful about offices now.)
She's getting by; I'm getting by. And we still like each other.
