Whale fluke

Hey! More of the good!

Other reasons to feel better (which I am, thank you):

* While normally I don't deal directly with the doctors in my job, I did earlier this week, and got a short but nice and appreciated thank-you e-mail from the doctor I had helped.

* I've been laughing out loud at the Joe R. Lansdale story ("Mule Rustlers") I started reading last night.

* The framed print of a naked butt sketched by Picasso, the print I bought from Dawn's sale, now hangs in a place of honor high on my wall.

* It's absolutely beautiful out; bright sun, plus enough clouds to make the sky extra-interesting. And I think Mt. St. Helens was venting a little this morning, always a dynamic sight.

I'm not yet singing It's a beautiful day, don't let it get away, but I'm better than I was two days ago...

I was born a ramblin' man

For someone who's never been farther out of the U.S. than international waters, I'm at least well-traveled in my home country:

create your own visited states map
or check out these Google Hacks.

I could have said Montana, but only going into West Yellowstone (in that tiny little hangnail dangling from the bottom of the state) doesn't truly count. Except I've reached the Montana section of Lonesome Dove; does that count?

For my Portland readers: Cab advice?

Hey, those in Portland:

As among the things I've not yet done in this life is get a cab, do you recommend a particular cab company?

That might be the best way for me to get home from the Oscar party Sunday night, as I don't want to drive or be waiting for late-night buses between St. Johns and Brooklyn.

Edited to Add: Asked and answered, Your Honor! copperwise volunteered to let me ride home with her and her husband Ryan. Thanks!
