Jewel Staite: So sexy it's scary? You decide!

Just because I won't join people for tonight's "Firefly at the Mission" don't mean I can't make words about it...

Tonight's episodes: "Out of Gas" and "Ariel." "Out of Gas" is the flashback-heavy episode, showing how the crewmembers of Serenity met. You likely remember how Mal met Kaylee, as played by Jewel Staite. If you haven't, let's just say there's nudity. (Trivia! How many major Firefly characters appeared naked or at least shirtless? Answer: all of them, though the Simon-lovers had to wait until the film for him to get his shirt off... Revision-ario: Oops. I forgot "Objects In Space," but electrcspacegrl didn't!)

Tuning into "Out of Gas" when it first aired: Peter David, Writer of Stuff (and a writer I've been fond of since the one-two punch of his Star Trek novels Vendetta and Imzadi). His reaction to that scene: blocking his view of the TV with his hand and saying something like "Oh, God, no!"...because he had worked with Jewel before, when she was a 13-year-old cast member on David's TV show Space Cases (hey! Here's its Wikipedia page!). In the intervening years, his life and career had gone on, and so had hers, and she'd grown up and fallen in love (eventually marrying in 2003). And how does Peter David run into Jewel Staite again years later? When she's naked and, well, pretending that something's betwixt her nethers that's not run on batteries. ;-)

Awkwardness of that 2002 moment aside, I heard they're friends again. (I've also heard David call Staite his "honorary adopted daughter," as in "Eyes front, mister: That's my honorary adopted daughter you're ogling.")

So, I ask you: Is Jewel Staite truly so sexy it's scary? Or at least skeevy? We shall be waiting for your answer. The decision rests with you...
