Blow My Mind

Good sign: I went to bed running a fever and woke up with a temp of 97.7. This, for me, is normal.

I'm still sore in the throat (though at least not insane in the membrane; oy, I hated that song) and sneezy, but I'm making progress towards health.

Please, body, stay healthy enough that I can finally run out and buy groceries and sore-throat spray...

The outside world still exists!

I've traveled beyond my apartment, for the first time since a quick walk on Saturday to drop off a letter. I've driven, for the first time since last weekend. I needed a break from my place, and was feeling good enough to get out (though I'm going to rest now; my temperature went back up to 98.6, and I can feel it) so...

...I drove up to Mt. Tabor, and walked by myself for a few minutes. Misty day in Portland, with a spritzing of rain; comfortable, though it makes me glad I'm not grilling today. And I had a view different than my view of the parking area behind my apartment building, which was nice to have.

After that I stopped at a grocery store, and got next month's TriMet pass, groceries, and cash back. I'm home now; I'm alternating between doing some computer stuff and eating lunch (comfort food: potato salad from the store), and after this I'll rest again.

I'm really looking forward to this journal being more exciting... :-)

Can't Stop the Serenity 2008 is a GO!

Portland's third annual Can't Stop The Serenity, the charity screening of Joss Whedon's Serenity to benefit Equality Now and the Women's Film Initiative, will be held at the Hollywood Theatre on Friday, June 20 and Saturday, June 21st.

Times of the three showings will be determined and announced.

Guests will include Dark Horse Comics' Scott Allie, editor of Dark Horse's Serenity comic books as well as Buffy: Season 8; Sierra Hahn, assistant editor of Buffy: Season 8; and Amanda Sullivan, Director of Equality Now's Women's Action Network.

There will be a kickoff party, and a Saturday costume party to close out the festivities.

Doesn't seem like it's been almost a year...

5/29 edit: The signal's even spreading to Clear Channel. Mom heard a commercial for Can't Stop the Serenity on K 103 FM, one of the stations she listens to...

I really cook

The bad news is, I still have higher-than-normal temps and a sore throat.

The good news is, I had a window of opportunity earlier this afternoon where I could talk and laugh without feeling like I was shredding my throat, which was especially good timing as I read for the first time Stephen King's short story "Battleground." Yes, I laughed out loud more than once.

Additional bad news is, Sydney Pollack has died of cancer. Good director, surprisingly good under-the-radar character actor.

Additional good news is, merovingian still writes stuff like this.

And in what I hope is good news, I'm starting to feel tired and ready to sleep. I hope this leads to sleep. Sleep soon...
