Tangled up in blue

Tired, emotional post commences:

It feels like life is taking a lot out of me lately. Yesterday was -- "difficult" is overstating it. Frustrating, that's closer to correct. Then sad: I heard sad news from a good friend.

Even a big piece of good family news -- which I referred to in my vague post a couple of days ago -- ties into something in the past that makes me sad. I won't post about the part that makes me sad. Here, I'll share the good part: my cousin Rob in Denmark is a father again; he and his partner Sara have a 9-pound daughter named Olivia. Rob -- he was meant to be a father. He's a good father, and a good man. He has two children from his previous marriage. Aaaaaaaand that's as close as I'm skirting to the sad thing. But I think about the sad thing.

There's been plenty of sad and frustrating. And by the end of the day yesterday, a day with seemingly extra amounts of sad and frustrating, I felt like I'd been slightly beaten. And in case you haven't guessed, that's Not My Thing. And THEN I didn't sleep well. Once again fell asleep with the light next to my bed on, and that ALWAYS messes with my sleep. Makes it not deep enough.

I wondered if I could swing not going to work today. I probably can't. Today will be busy and, to be honest, I need the hours.

So. I'm feeling low. I'm delving for the energy to get better, to find more comfort, to improve.

You all treat me well, and treat me gently. And I appreciate that deeply. More so at moments like this. And as my friend popfiend likes to say, it's a moment, not an eternity. Things can be better.

I want things to be better.

This has been a tired, emotional post.

Slow ride, take it easy

Wow, when you have to be awake and productive, it's somehow easier, huh? It was that kind of day. (What I said to my boss this morning: "So I'm driving now and later?" What he said to me: "Yes, now.")

That said, the day's been long and my bedtime tonight will be soon. It's time for comforting stuff: I'm grilling up grilled cheese (a sandwich, in case anyone thinks I grill just cheese) and playing Dire Straits (Making Movies) on the stereo.

Maybe a sign of my tired mind: Tonight I almost said "As happy as a clam in ham." WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN?!

(And my sick mind is going "You know, 'as happy as a ham in clam" makes a little more sense, because...," but that thought's not continuing on this journal.)

Good night, all! It should commence...NOW.

therealljidol Week 2: WHAT DOES IT MEAN???!

We knew meaning had lost all meaning when songs on the radio started being multiple choice.

By then, Men At Work’s “Down Under” was 23 freakin’ minutes of

…buying bread from a man in
A) Bruges
B) Brussels
C) Poughkeepsie, NY
D) Candy Mountain
E) the mirror

He was
A) six-foot-four and full of muscle
B) dainty
C) as fat-less as a flag pole
D) built like a brick shithouse
E) built like a shit brickhouse

I sat there speaking my language, and he just
A) grew hair
B) did tae kwon do moves
C) juggled gerbils to the tune of “Sussudio”
D) smiled and gave me a Vegemite sandwich
E) blinked

…man, thinking of all the different things something can be is exhausting. Reassembling thoughts, pondering creative decisions, pondering decisions period, showing how something could’ve been done differently, demonstrating what’s arbitrary in the creation of something, it might be more than my mind can…

Oh, crap, more thoughts on that will have to wait until I finish hearing the expanded “American Pie”…

This has (somewhat obliquely) been an entry for therealljidol. I’m not sure how close I got to the Week 2 topic, which is “Deconstruction,” but this is what sprang forth after thinking (and thinking and thinking) about that term. Later I’ll post the link to the LJ Idol Week 2 poll. / Edit: Here is the poll!

Somehow, this...speaks to me.

More than one person's been amused by the idea of drawing Disney princesses as light saber-wielding Sith. Specifically, DeviantART contributor JosephB222 drew them and enough others liked them that they got spread elsewhere on the Net (where people like me can nitpick and go "But Jasmine's nose isn't right!"). There's something I find especially compelling about

If the smallish version of that image isn't clear, Snow is using that Sith lightning to levitate the apple in her hand.
