For You and Yours

For You and Yours
by Christopher Walsh, 9/25/2018-9/27/2018

A welcoming entrance at front or the side
The hoped-for whimsy of a garden gnome
The plant-facing windows you could open wide —
You hope it all adds up to home.

Enough in the pantry to satisfy you
And bookshelves, stuffed, ranged from comic to tome
A place to get crafty, with cuttings or glue —
You hope it all adds up to home.

No steps in the stairwell that creak when they're touched
The privacy spots when you want time alone
Some well-padded chairs; if you need it, a hutch —
You hope it all adds up to home.

Some handsome and roomy rooms, furnished with zest
A lit-enough bathroom: space for your comb
Sufficiently bedded for everyone's rest —
You hope it all adds up to home.

A place you can stop, and you don't have to go
Where you can find comfort after you roam
Relaxing and loving and getting to grow —
You hope it all adds up to home.
