I've been taking a break from looking at the sky.

This is unusual for me. I was the kid who watched clouds. When I got my first good camera in Christmas 1990, I took lots of sky and sunset shots. I usually find the sky compelling, and often calming.

Not now. Not with the fires, and the smoke, and the heavy, wrong colors above us.

In a moment I'll brave leaving my bedroom with the curtain pulled and make dinner and see some of the kitchen's views, on the overly dark evening we're having in Portland.
