On Sunday at 5:00 p.m., the Powell's Books in Beaverton (at Cedar Hills Crossing or whatever the new name of Beaverton Mall is (never mind that the mall crosses no hills)) is hosting author Daniel Handler -- he who writes as Lemony Snicket -- and Decemberists lead singer Colin Meloy.
Here's proof, c/o Powells.Com. And here's the Portland Mercury preview of the event.
I have a copy of Handler's new for-adults book, Adverbs -- that's his M.O., by the way, write disturbing books for kids as Snicket and disturbing books for adults under his own name -- and I've been a fan of his since I read the first Series of Unfortunate Events book in 2002. His writing can be both elegant and horrifying. And there's a sense of humor that exists side-by-side with the horrific stuff, and -- this is a trick -- that humor never lessens the impact of the horror that happens. Good, dark, gothic: of course I'd like it. And of course I'm going to try to get to this event.
