(Mostly) quiet Fourth

I had a low-impact Independence Day.

I did have the day off, but to be on the safe side I went into the office briefly and was able to take care of some work. Conveniently, the office was on my way from home to my parents' home, where I am now. I drove out, visited and ate dinner with the folks, and did lots of reading. I'm going back and forth between three different books: Movies in Fifteen Minutes by cleolinda (finished! Yay! I also read Cleo's version of the opening of The Fellowship of the Ring to Mom, who thought it was pretty funny), Walt Disney: The Triumph of the American Imagination by Neil Gabler, and a coffee table book we've had for years called Wake of the Whale. There's amazing, sometimes surreal photography of whales in it, but I'm finding that the text is interesting, too; I had never read it, though we've had the book since maybe 1980.

For dinner Dad grilled up pork and potatoes and told Navy stories, and Mom made a fruit salad with red (strawberries), white (bananas) and blue (blueberries), plus oranges and other fruits, because a three-ingredient fruit salad isn't enough variety.

I'll head home this morning, stopping for some quickly-grabbed groceries, and work a partial day. There'll be work...in a quiet office...
