Tonight after work I took the tram off of the hill. I stood at the forward edge of the tram car as it left the upper station, and I looked out over downtown, the Willamette River, and east Portland. The city had reached dusk, a dusk made darker by a few layers of clouds spent of their rain. The cars and trucks of the evening commute outlined the roads, the freeway and the bridges with their headlights and tailights, made a little diffuse by the slight mist in the air. Lines of streetlights were subtly visible between the dark mass of houses, buildings, trees and hills stretching to the eastern horizon ahead of us. Shafts of light punctuated the lower tram tower and OHSU's waterfront building.
It looked like a movie scene.
I started humming the music from the first shot in Blade Runner.
