George Carlin has died, damnit.
For all his protestations that he didn't care about the world -- "I wanna see shit blowing up and bodies falling from the sky!" -- Carlin may have done the most of any modern comedian to actually get people to think about the world and how it could be better. (A thought both he and his friend Harlan Ellison have espoused: American homelessness would be solved if you built homes on golf course land!) And, of course, Carlin was amazingly funny. And, less obviously, he had actors' chops; he got to show them in Kevin Smith's Jersey Girl (his performance is one of the few things I truly like about that film).
You'll be missed, Mr. Carlin. Thank you for being you and for what you did.
