…so today, at the little food-and-coffee place in my office building, I picked up a 20-ounce bottle of Coke and asked the barista crew, “Could I get a shot of chocolate syrup in this? Or would that be too messy to do?”
The answers? Yes and yes.
I paid for the drink and the extra flavor shot, I opened the bottle and handed it to the woman helping me, she put in a shot of syrup, she put in another shot…and the drink started to bubble up towards the neck, the carbonated water reacting to the additional stuff. “Whoa!” she said; I grabbed the bottle, and started sucking up what I could so not too much would spill. I wasn’t entirely successful. I was apologetic. Everyone was understanding and amused. “Let’s try this,” the barista said, and poured the Coke into a cup. Cleaning commenced. And I heard at least one woman in line say, “I’ve got to try that sometime.” (Someone else: “It’s better than Coke and peanuts, and people do that!”)
I resisted the urge to say, “You’ve been a wonderful audience!”
