FSM is releasing the three-CD set The Shaft Anthology: His Big Score and More!, compiling the first film's original score tracks by Isaac Hayes, Gordon Parks's score for Shaft's Big Score, and Johnny Pate's music for episodes of the Shaft TV series from 1973-74. (The set doesn't include Shaft in Africa for licensing reasons.) FSM's Lukas Kendall further indulges his blaxploitation-loving side by writing the liner notes. (Lukas once replaced his editor photo in Film Score Monthly magazine with a picture of Ron Priest as Superfly.) This set is limited to 3,000 copies.
And La-La-Land Records will release John Morris's score to Blazing Saddles, including the Oscar-nominated title song. The label will start accepting pre-orders Tuesday, August 19th. This is also a limited edition of 3,000 copies.
(Also -- yendi alert! -- La-La Land is releasing CDs of music from the Sci-Fi Channel's original series Eureka (composer Bear McCreary) and the TV movie Teen Titans: Trouble in Tokyo (veteran Batman: TAS composers Kristopher Carter, Michael McCuistion and Lolita Ritmanis).)
