Recovered kid actor and all-around good guy Wil Wheaton was on last night's Criminal Minds as the bad guy. Wheaton, being a writer as well as an actor, is writing a five six-part recap of getting that role and filming it. Worth sharing.

Here's last night's preamble on his blog, which I read early enough to be able to catch part of his role.

Part One: The Audition. Going back a while to when and how he got the part.

Part Two: The Read-Through. Wil sits with the actors and goes over their scenes.

Part Three: Production Begins. His first night shooting, getting his character's ultimate fate on film. (Spoilers, obviously.)

Part Four: Production Continues, back on location. Includes the reason (take heed, slipjig!) that Wil's started cheering for the Chicago Bears, plus Wil's (telling?) typo about being buried under "a writing pile of cheerleaders." Yeah, that'd make cheerleaders even hotter... ;-)

Part Five: The Big Day Begins. On-set work this time, and Wil's getting into the meat of his performance. And as he's playing a psycho, his mind goes to dark places. You're warned.

Part Six: That's a wrap! Wil finishes his scenes and also learns what the writers first wanted to do with Wil's charater...

So he's guested the CBS shows CSI, Numb3rs, and Criminal Minds. Now I want him to get a role on NCIS, ideally interacting in some way with Abby. (Have that show ever shown one of Abby's boyfriends? Hey! That'd be a good role for him!)

He doesn't act as much, and is a published author now (three books so far). He stills performs; he does a lot of voice work (such as Legion of Superheroes, Teen Titans, and even the Grand Theft Auto games), and he does improv theater and several of the VH1 "I Love The [Whatever]s" shows. Do you watch CSI (Original Flavor)? He played a homeless man named Walter in one episode. Let's see: it was "Compulsion" from 2005. Thanks, IMDb!

I'm glad he's still around. He's a good guy.

Oh, and if you want to read the last part, he's posted it.
