Whoa. That's a good "whoa."

That's why I'm glad Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles is getting a full second season.

Well done.

Surprising and unexpected structure, some tough choices for the characters to make (you impressed me there, John), some impassioned line readings, and a climax I really did not see coming and that I watched wide-eyed.

I've wavered on my commitment to the show, which can be uneven...plus its dialogue is usually, um, less than natural, and not in an interesting stylized way either. (And a marketing thing: this season's early episodes were advertised with those overly bright "super fan!" radio ads. Made the show sound wacky. WACKY IS WRONG HERE.) But episodes like tonight's, the one with the aircraft carrier, and a good chunk of the first season keep me committed. Keep it up, everyone involved.

Things like that make me worried it won't get a third season, though. Not because they're not good... because they ARE, and I'd so so miss it.

Good day!

Maybe economics will help here, maybe they won't. Fox pays very little for Sarah Connor Chronicles, 'cause most of the budget comes from international sources (the show's sold overseas) plus Dodge for the use of its vehicles. So Fox can spend more on advertising (whether it's effective or not is another issue, but the funds would be there) and try to make it an Event. That's likely why Fox felt okay about giving the show a full second season.

The show's in a better position than Firefly was, in that if the producers do see that they're only likely to get a second season, they can plan an ending, something Firefly didn't get until the movie. (Firefly was more expensive for Fox, too, though had it lasted longer it would've become less expensive: most of the recurring stuff would've been built, and the show was designed to use existing locations without much set dressing.)

We'll see.

You know, I watched the first five episodes or so of the show and was so horribly disappointed. I thought the writing was horrible and characters kind of blah.

My boyfriend's son loves the show, so I have caught an episode here or there lately when I happen to be over at their house. Last night's episode was the first one to really make me sit up and take notice.
