Significant Others

They made it! My friend Alicia and her boyfriend Larry finally drove from Eugene to Portland today (the rain and thunder didn’t stop them!), and they’re having a long-sought weekend of visiting, walking and shopping. (They’d hoped to come here at least once, maybe twice, in the past few months, but Larry would be either sick or work-swamped.)

We spent the afternoon together: we tried to get into the good breakfast-and-lunch place Genie’s, but the wait was too long, and we finally had a much-needed good lunch at the Hawthorne Café. We later wandered Hawthorne Blvd. between SE 38th, near the Bagdad Theatre and the Fred Meyer, and SE 30th, near Big Daddy’s BBQ. Larry’s a photographer, and he was proving this during the walk. Then we stopped at Freddy’s for a few things, then drove and walked up Mount Tabor for a hazy view of Portland.

Tomorrow they’ll visit Larry’s sister and also go to Powell’s Books before heading back to Eugene. I’ll be visiting family, plus watching a game. You may have heard of it…it’s much like the one in my entry below, in fact!
