How about a song tonight? Or at least a bit of a song. I’m in the mood for that. And I’ll let you know right off that there will be profanity involved, so if you don’t want to hear me swear, stop listening. But I started a little parody song a few years ago, because I was one of those people who was quite happily following the production of, and the fandom around, a little film called Snakes on a Plane. Just the very concept, I thought, needed to be celebrated in song. This, of course, was a long time before Cobra Starship got to write their song about snakes on a plane, but I thought Why not come up with something? I came up with a little bit.
You know that Killers song “Mr. Brightside”? It’s to that tune. What I came up with begins at the part in the original song where Brandon Flowers sings “Jealousy, turning snakes into the sea…” and so on.
Here’s what I came up with.
He’s insane
Leading snakes onto a plane
Slithering into our hearts
OK, not when screaming starts
Sam L. Jackson battles them!
Can he kill enough of them?
“Motherfucker!” he will cry…
Because he’s seen snake eyes
Thank you, thank you, please, stop the applause.
