Come Monday, KINK FM 101.9, 101.1 KUFO, KUPL Country 98.7, and 970.AM The Talker will switch to the new owner.
This affects stations I listen to and people I know, so I'm not going to speculate on what may or may not happen under the new owner. I superstitiously don't want to jinx anything, and I truly want this to be a good result for the people at these stations. What gives me hope is Wilson's quote from May to The Oregonian: "I love the radio business, and I think the rumors of its demise are way overstated. If it's community radio, the listenership is there." And (me again) these stations have already done a good job fostering a sense of community and connection; I hope they can build on this more.
Larry Wilson, for the record, also owns Portland stations Newsradio 750 KXL and sports station 95.5 The Game, which he bought from Paul Allen last May.
(As reported by Oregon Media Central, which recently ran Tara Dublin's guest column about radio.)
